Grimsby have been on terrible form lately, and currently lie in 23rd place in League 2. They were one of the divisions high profile casulties from the F.A cup at the weekend, going down 2-0 at home to Bath City – and one fan did not enjoy himself!

Enjoy – although please note, League2Online is not responsible for the language present.

Bournemouth’s young manager Eddie Howe has turned down the chance to manage Championship side Peterborough. The 31-year old and his assistant, Jason Tindall are attracting interest from higher clubs after the good work they have done since taking the Cherries reigns last January.

“It’s nice when people show an interest in you, it shows we are doing the right things,” Howe told BBC Radio Solent.

“I’m delighted to still be manager. My heart is here and I think everybody knows how much I love the club.”

Bournemouth sit top of League 2 after a storming start to the season, while Peterborough languish at the foot of the Championship after departing with Darren Ferguson by ‘mutual consent’.

Port Vale boss Micky Adams is on the shortlist to become League Two manager of the month for October.

It comes after his side extended their unbeaten run to an impressive seven games. Victories over Shrewsbury Town and Crewe coupled with draws against table-toppers Bournemouth, third placed Dagenham & Redbridge and Cheltenham have pushed Vale up to 13th place in League Two. Adams’ men also saw off Stockport County in the Johnstone Paint Trophy.

The run comes after Adams controversially placed the whole squad on the transfer list, following Vale’s 3-1 defeat at Notts County in late September.

He would be the first Vale boss to win the award since Brian Horton was handed the gong back in March 2001. The three other candidates in the League Two category are Chesterfield’s John Sheridan, Rochdale’s Keith Hill, and former Stoke striker and current Burton manager Paul Peschisolido.

The winner will be announced on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday show this weekend.

Swedish manager Hans Backe endured a frustrating first game in charge of League 2′s richest club. Fellow promotion hopefuls Shrewsbury Town came away from Meadow Lane – but it could, and should have been more.

Town started the better of the two sides, their slick passing creating an opportunity but Kevin McIntyre’s low cross just evaded the lunging Waide Fairhurst at the far post. But it wasn’t long until they had the lead, Dean Holden’s cross falling nicely for on-loan Jamie Devitt who buried his finish low past Kasper Schmeichel.

The match really came alive after half-time. Notts County came out in search of an equaliser, and Steve Phillips had to be alert to deny former Shrew Luke Rodgers at the near post. But is was Shrewsbury who had a glorious chance to extend their lead. Dean Holden put in another teasing delivery, which Schmeichel did well to claw out. The ball fell to top scorer Dave Hibbert, but his volley was cleared off the line.

It turned out to be the turning point in the game, as Town began to come under serious pressure. Backe introduced Ade Akinbiyi from the bench and he quickly produced a smart turn and shot to test Phillips. However it soon told, as skipper Graeme Lee lingered at the far post and Luke Rodgers found him in acres of space to nod in.

Shrews manager Paul Simpson was understandably disappointed with the final score, but this game was a fantastic advert for League 2 football.

Miller scored the goal to push Gills up to 4th

Shrewsbury stuttered to victory against Darlington at the Prostar. Darlington, who were in third place, dropped to 8th after the defeat, a measure of how tight the league is at the moment. Richard Walker made it 2 in 2, scoring early on in a tight contest. Darlington had plenty of chances to get back into the game, but Luke Daniels was in inspired form to net an important win for the Shrews.

Elsewhere a penalty from Barry Conlon seven minutes into injury time snatched a point for Bradford. They had fallen 2-0 down to in-form Luton, Asa Hall glanced in a header and Sunday Wasiu tapped in from a free-kick. Paul McClaren pulled one back for the Bantams, before Dean Furman scored with a fine shot. Asa Hall looked to have secured all three points for the Hatters in the first minute of injury time, but Conlon rounded off an entertaining game at Kenilworth Road.

Shrimps’ bag second away win by Danny Milligan

Morecambe secured their first win of 2009 at Chesterfield’s Recreation Ground on Saturday.

Second half goals from Rene Howe and Craig Stanley were enough to give the Shrimps’ three points.

Michael Twiss volleyed over in the third minute for the Shrimps’ but it was a poor first half with both teams unable to create any substantial chances.

The second half started brightly and a Shrimps’ break on 54 minutes saw Howe open the scoring with a diving header at the back post, courtesy of a Fraser McLachlan cross.

But Chesterfield responded immediately with Martin Gritton picking up a Jack Lester pass and striking the ball past Barry Roche in the Morecambe goal.

Morecambe re-gained their advantage after 67 minutes, a Neil Wainwright cross from the left found Stanley on his own in the box, the midfielder side-footing the ball past Spireites’ keeper Tommy Lee.

Matty Blinkhorn and Twiss also had good chances as Chesterfield pressed, but both blasted over the bar.

Ex-Chesterfield and current Morecambe keeper Barry Roche spoke to me after the game.

He said: “It was very strange playing back at my old ground today. I have looked forward to this game all season.

“Against Gillingham last week we were really poor but we have worked hard all this week and it has paid off.

“The goals we scored today reflected the work we have done in training, getting the ball wide and into the box.

“We don’t score enough goals and we can’t keep relying on Rene (Howe) but today will give us a big boost”.

*Chesterfield’s loss has also raised questions over manager Lee Richardson’s future at the club. What are your views? Should he walk or are managers in lower leagues taking the blame for players lack of effort or commitment?

Elding – signed on loan earlier this week from Crewe, scored after his side had been reduced to 10 men against Brentford.

Dany N’Guessen put Lincoln 1-0 up, but they were quickly pegged back. First Marcus Bean equalised, then Dean Bowditch volleyed in a spectacular second. Lincoln’s Paul Green was given a straight red card for a late tackle, but it didn’t stop Elding snatching a point for the Imps.

Meanwhile, Bury moved up to fourth with a tight victory over struggling Barnet. Mike Jones slotted the only goal of the game.

And Notts County battled back from a goal down to gain a victory over Exeter. Marcus Stewart put the away side in front from the penalty spot in the first half. But the Magpies quickly equalised through Delroy Facey, and blog ‘star’ Gavin Strachan got the winner.
