Midweek Round-up

Gillingham made it two away wins in three days, and moved into the play-off places with a win at Port Vale on Tuesday night. Marc Richards put Vale 1-0 up but the Gills staged a second half come-back with goals from Denis Oli, Adam Miller, and a Simeon Jackson penalty.

Elsewhere, Exeter grabbed a priceless win at rivals Dag & Red. Craig McAllister scored twice as the Grecians leapfrogged the Daggers. And Aldershot fell further behind the pack with a 2-2 draw at home to Notts County.

Spireites continue scoring streak

With a full set of mid-week games, League 2 threw up some interesting results.

Chesterfield went to third-placed Exeter and came away with a stunning 6-1 victory. Chesterfield went 1-0 up thanks to Jamie Winter thunderbolt from 25 yards out. Just before half-time they grabbed a second, Alan Goodall cutting inside and finishing well. Exeter pulled one back early in the second half, but a quick brace from veteran striker Jack Lester, plus goals from Jamie Ward and substitute Darren Currie saw the Spireites cruise to victory.

Elsewhere in the division, Chester City surprisingly overcame a lacklustre Brentford at the Deva. Ryan Lowe netted twice in a 3-0 victory for the underdogs. A late winner from Barry Conlon saw Bradford sneak a win over early-season pace setters Bury. Darlington beat Rotherham United 1-0 at the Don Valley stadium, while Shrewsbury went three games without a win, drawing 2-2 at home to Barnet.

League leaders Wycombe’s game at home to Macclesfield was abandoned after 23 minutes due to the bad weather, while Luton’s home fixture against Bournemouth suffered the same fate.
