Port Vale 0-3 Brentford

After both clubs won in the F.A. cup, confidence was high going into this game at Vale Park, writes Alex Aubrey.

It was advantage Brentford when Port Vale midfielder Ross Davidson was sent off for violent conduct in the 37thminute. The red card came for a horrendous challenge on Karleigh Osbourne. Osbourne got up to fire in Brentford’s first just before the half-time whistle. The players went into the dressing rooms with a chorus of boo’s directed at Osbourne for his part in the sending off.

After the interval, Vale began to make their way back into the game. But Marcus Bean rose to nod in a corner, and put the game beyond doubt.

To make things even worse for the home support Charlie MacDonald blasted home his 8th goal of the season with a typical powerful finish. Credit must go to Adam Newton for the goal, who single handedly created the chance with a fantastic run.

This result sees Brentford move upto fifth in the table, joint third and only 4 points of top of the table Darlington. Andy Scott will hope to keep the confidence from this victory when Brentford face league leaders Darlington. Port Vale are now down two places to 14th and will be hoping to go to Wycombe and end their unbeaten run.
