Elding – signed on loan earlier this week from Crewe, scored after his side had been reduced to 10 men against Brentford.

Dany N’Guessen put Lincoln 1-0 up, but they were quickly pegged back. First Marcus Bean equalised, then Dean Bowditch volleyed in a spectacular second. Lincoln’s Paul Green was given a straight red card for a late tackle, but it didn’t stop Elding snatching a point for the Imps.

Meanwhile, Bury moved up to fourth with a tight victory over struggling Barnet. Mike Jones slotted the only goal of the game.

And Notts County battled back from a goal down to gain a victory over Exeter. Marcus Stewart put the away side in front from the penalty spot in the first half. But the Magpies quickly equalised through Delroy Facey, and blog ‘star’ Gavin Strachan got the winner.

Weekend Round-up

In a late flurry of action at Griffin Park, Brentford overcame Bradford. Marcus Bean put Brentford ahead in the 88th minute, before Michael Boulding equalised a minute later. But Nathan Elder snatched victory in stoppage time, which allows the Bees to leapfrog their opponents in the table.

Bury moved up to second with an impressive 3-0 victory over Port Vale. Ben Futcher made it 1-0, before two goals from Glynn Hurst set-up victory. They move above Shrewsbury, who surprisingly lost to Grimsby Town. The Mariners earned their first home victory since March thanks to an Adam Proudlock volley.

Elsewhere, Wycombe were held 0-0 at home to Luton, and Darlington fell to a 1-0 defeat at Christie Park against Morecambe.

On Friday night Chesterfield suffered another dissapointing loss, this time at home to Macclesfield. Martin Gritton struck twice for the visitors, whilst Jamie Ward battled alone for the Spireites, grabbing two goals himself. Lee Richardson must surely be close to the sack now. Lincoln also played on Friday night, comfortably beating Accrington 5-1 at Sincil Bank.

Port Vale 0-3 Brentford

After both clubs won in the F.A. cup, confidence was high going into this game at Vale Park, writes Alex Aubrey.

It was advantage Brentford when Port Vale midfielder Ross Davidson was sent off for violent conduct in the 37thminute. The red card came for a horrendous challenge on Karleigh Osbourne. Osbourne got up to fire in Brentford’s first just before the half-time whistle. The players went into the dressing rooms with a chorus of boo’s directed at Osbourne for his part in the sending off.

After the interval, Vale began to make their way back into the game. But Marcus Bean rose to nod in a corner, and put the game beyond doubt.

To make things even worse for the home support Charlie MacDonald blasted home his 8th goal of the season with a typical powerful finish. Credit must go to Adam Newton for the goal, who single handedly created the chance with a fantastic run.

This result sees Brentford move upto fifth in the table, joint third and only 4 points of top of the table Darlington. Andy Scott will hope to keep the confidence from this victory when Brentford face league leaders Darlington. Port Vale are now down two places to 14th and will be hoping to go to Wycombe and end their unbeaten run.

Nov 15 Round-Up

Wycombe beat fellow promotion candidates Bradford, in a tight game at Adams Park. The Chairboys had the better of the chances, and after Chris Zebroski hit a post, new signing Angelo Balanta came on and created the winning goal for Lewis Hunt.

But Darlington remain top of the league after a battling 2-0 win at home to Lincoln City. It looked like Lincoln might walk away with a result after Stephen Foster was sent off early on. However, Darlington dug in, and Liam Hatch netted soon after the re-start. Late-on Richie Foran sealed the points for the Quakers.

Another sending off had more of an impact at Vale Park. Ross Davidson was sent off for Port Vale for a late challenge, which gave Brentford the impetus to go on and win comfortably 3-0. Karleigh Osborne scored on the stroke of half-time and Marcus Bean nodded in a corner just as Vale were fighting back. Charlie MacDonald smashed in a late third for Brentford, who climb to 5th in the table.

Elsewhere Gillingham smashed Rotherham 4-0 to move into the play-off positions, and Grimsby ended their long winless run with a 2-0 win at Bury, despite JP Kalala’s sending off. And Jonathan Forte showed why Notts County were so desperate to sign him, scoring a hat-trick before half-time to give Notts County an impressive 4-0 win away to Barnet.
